On behalf of the elders, I'd like to share some of the highlights we've experienced this past year.
Our building provides numerous ministry opportunities, facilitating worship gatherings, evangelistic outreach and various group meetings. We are particularly grateful for our partnership with M2M, especially as they plan to establish a women's drop-in ministry later this year.
We are thankful for those serving in various ministries, as we seek to love and encourage each other in faith. Our church serves as a light of genuine relationships and compassion in an increasingly isolated society. Being in this location for five years has fostered growth in our shared faith and mutual care.
We acknowledge God's faithfulness in bringing us to this building. Looking ahead, we plan to start modest renovations in our worship space around January/February 2025. A committee is working on a five to ten year plan for building maintenance and renovations. We aim to honor God through diligent upkeep and simplicity of this space He has entrusted to us.
Our financial team has implemented new software to maintain updated records, ensuring transparency and keeping the congregation informed about the church's financial status.
We're grateful for the congregation's generosity, especially regarding building improvements. As we navigate financial challenges, we're balancing renovation needs with efficient building maintenance.
We've strengthened our elder and deacon ministry, with closer collaboration and training. We plan to present new candidates in September. We appreciate Ken B (deacon lead), Adam K (elder lead), and all who serve faithfully.
We're thankful for a church that loves the Word, one another, and evangelism. Despite tackling difficult Scriptures, we've grown in love for God, truth, and each other. From our humble beginnings 34 years ago, we now have numerous opportunities for care, evangelism, and missions. We strive for holiness, compassion, and faithfulness, focusing on sharing the good news of Jesus.
We pray to be found faithful, for God is abundant in faithfulness.
You are in our prayers.

In 2023, we experienced a mix of celebrations and challenges, both on a personal level and as a church community. Our elders are committed to guiding the people of God with grace and truth. Throughout the year, we convened monthly to discuss, guide, and pray for GBC, and to delve into God’s word as we sought His will for His church. We are grateful for our elders and their families, and for their invaluable contribution to shepherding the people and advancing the kingdom of God.
Participating in church leadership has afforded us the incredible privilege of witnessing firsthand the work that God is doing - His abundant provision as He blesses His people, and His unwavering care as He supports His people through challenging times. God's faithfulness in the past forms the foundation of our hope for the future. Despite having witnessed God fulfill His promises time and time again, the reassurance that our hope will not disappoint us (Romans 5:5) is always welcome.
As we look ahead to the coming year, we do so with hope that God will equip us to minister to and bear witness to the community in which He has placed us, and that His name will be glorified there. As elders, we pray that He will empower us to care for His people effectively, and that He will raise up more leaders to join us in this mission and find fulfillment in being a part of this important work.

The deacons would first like to express our gratitude to Nathan Wassink for his many years of faithful service as deacon to GBC. His dedication and selflessness was an expression of his love for God and his love for this church. Thank-you Nathan!
As deacons we have the unique privilege of witnessing how God works through His people, to care for and minister to our local congregation and community. So many of you have willingly given of your time and resources and therefore, in many ways, often unknowingly, taken on the role of deacon in your own way. Thank-you GBC for your love, care and compassion for one another!
The deacon’s ministry at GBC meets regularly throughout the year to discuss the benevolent and physical needs of the church. God has blessed this group with the various gifts and talents often needed to help understand and discern the various needs of GBC and we are thankful to each one for their willingness to share these gifts with the church. As deacons we pray that He will raise up more leaders within this church to share in the blessing of this work, so that we may care well for His people and this building.
May God continue to use this team for His glory!

What a gift it is to come together each week and worship God together through the preaching, singing and prayer of His Word. In 2023, we journeyed through the books of Hebrews, Ruth and Lamentations with a summer series on When God Asks Questions. At the end of the year, we came to see the story of the gospel through the Christmas story.
We came together on Sundays to celebrate the Lord’s Supper together, witness baptisms, rejoice with one another, and even grieve loss together. All of this we did growing together in the unity of the faith.
“Grace Bible Church is a church that truly strives towards her name. Everything I have encountered at GBC has been Bible-centred and grace-filled. From my first Sunday, GBC has been a church that weeps with those who weep and rejoices with those who rejoice, and it has truly felt like coming home!”

2023 was a year of continued growth for GBC Connection Groups. Despite challenges, it has been encouraging to see groups supporting and caring for their members.!
“This group was a blessing to me this year. I enjoyed getting to know more women at Grace and learned a lot from the studies we did.”
“I really love this connection group.”
“Great group, great leader & lots of friendly open discussion.”
“Facilitated well, kept on track, allowed discussion, but reigned us in when necessary, didn't have all the answers and encouraged us to dig deeper on our own as well.”
What a privilege it is to participate in ministries globally. We aim to concentrate our missionary efforts on spreading the Gospel both locally and internationally. In 2023, we consistently gathered and achieved our objectives in ensuring the congregation remained well-informed about GBC's mission endeavours.
Throughout the year, we welcomed several missionaries to share during our Sunday services and devoted the entire month of January to emphasizing missions in our adult and children's Sunday School curriculum! Let's continue to uplift our missionaries in prayer as they carry out the work God has placed before them!
How can you serve in 2024 and beyond?
2023 Treasurer Report and Highlights
Donations to the general fund were $634,000 or $3,000 below budget for 2023.
As previously published for the budget meeting, the financials show a deficit in the general fund of approx. $15,000 before amortization. Unfortunately, we had budgeted $50,000 for the building maintenance fund but only $5,000 was received in donations, which solely resulted in the deficit. Thankfully, operating and ministry expenses were below budget, which helped, reduce the deficit. Rental income was also below what was budgeted.
In the Building Renovation Fund, donations totalled $512,000. These and other funds pledged will be utilized in the revised renovation project. New pews are now on order!
Bank balance of $378,000 at the end of 2023, which is an increase of $73,000 over 2022.
New accounting software implemented in 2023 has provided more up-to-date information.
GBC transitioned banks from TD to RBC. This has gone well and we are happy with the service level we are receiving from the new bank.
General offerings so far for 2024, are tracking behind budget as the recent financial update indicated.
